View Staff PageCARES offers training and education to Clinical Psychology graduate students at all year levels. CARES also offers positions to students who are achieving their bachelor degree. Students receive numerous trainings to educate them in early childhood development, treatment of autism spectrum disorders, psychological testing of clients from 18 months to adult, diagnosis, parent training and other clinical issues. CARES offers intensive supervision for students and an opportunity to work directly with clients who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder in the home setting as well as in the school setting. Currently, CARES offers positions to 6 practicum level students and 4 Internship level students.
An important element of the student practicums and internships is close supervision by licensed psychologists and other professionals. Students are required to have both individual and group supervision and are exposed to a variety of clients and clinical issues. Additionally, they are guided in developing their professional identity and professional ethics and boundaries.
Educational seminars are presented weekly and students are required to give case presentations and read research articles to further educate them in the specific area of autism spectrum disorders as well as other childhood developmental disorders. They are encouraged to participate in group therapy for clients of all ages and are supervised during the group therapy by licensed psychologists. Additionally, students are given the opportunity to participate in psychological test administration and report writing.
Traditional practicum and internship opportunities are one year in length. Students are able to schedule time off for holidays and vacations. Evaluations are done after each semester to give feedback about how the student is progressing to their graduate school as well as to the student him/herself.
